Regulation and approvals in Queensland

Who regulates childcare in the Wide Bay region?

In the Wide Bay region, as everywhere in Queensland, education and care services are regulated under the National Quality Framework. The regulatory authority for Queensland is the Early Childhood Regulatory Authority, part of the Queensland Department of Education. It considers provider and service approvals, assesses and rates services against the National Quality Standard, and monitors compliance.

Do I need council approval as well as a service approval in Queensland?

Usually, yes. Building a new centre or changing how a site is used generally needs development approval under Queensland's planning system, typically through the local council. That is a separate process from the regulator's service approval, and a new centre normally needs both before it can open.

Does a provider approval from another state cover a service in Queensland?

Provider approval is recognised nationally, so an approved provider from another state or territory does not need a new provider approval. Each service still needs its own service approval from the regulatory authority where it is located, here the Early Childhood Regulatory Authority.
